ISLA
PAJAROS.- Embraced by mangrover and cactus this small
10 acres island offers safe nesting and breeding grounds to
more than 20 diferents species of seabirds. White pelicans,
cormorants, egrets, herons, roseate spoonbills, white ibis,
frigates and other seem to take little notice of occasional
human visits. To not disturb then we avoid to go ashore but
even from the boat it's a sight you shoulden't miss. |

| CENOTE
YALAHAU.- Located just in front of ISLA HOLBOX,
on the mainland, this fresh water well springs up in the middle
of the jungle to flow crystal a few yards further in to the
sea. Many centuries ago the Mayas used it as a royal retreat,
decorating it with precious stones and gardens. Later, the
spanish conquerors took the jade an removed the stones away
to build the first monastery ont he continent in Boca iglesia.
Pirates, english woodcutters and local settlers continued
to come here to supply themselves with fresh water. Today
it's a good spot to refresh oneself i its cool waters after
visiting the surroundings. Leyend says you may even get younger
by doing so.... |
